Delete your GoWith account
You have the right to permanently delete your GoWith account and the personal data associated with it. This right is recognised under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and applies to every account holder, whether you signed up as a Booker or as an Activity Partner.
1. How to request deletion
Two ways to request account deletion. Both routes trigger the same verification and deletion pipeline.
Option A — From within the GoWith app
- Open the GoWith app and sign in.
- Tap Profile (bottom-right tab).
- Tap Settings → Account → Delete account.
- Confirm your identity by entering the OTP sent to your registered phone number.
- Confirm deletion. The request is submitted immediately.
Option B — By email (works even if you cannot access the app)
Send an email from the email address registered on your account to privacy@gowith.now with:
- Subject: Account Deletion Request
- Your registered phone number (10-digit, without country code)
- Your full name as registered
- The line: “I request permanent deletion of my GoWith account and all associated personal data, in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.”
We will call the registered phone number within 48 hours to verify identity before processing the request. This step protects you from unauthorised deletion by someone who obtained your email.
2. What is permanently deleted
Within 30 days of a verified request, we permanently delete:
- Your profile (name, display name, city, gender, date of birth);
- Your profile photograph and any media you uploaded;
- Your saved payment methods and card tokens (via PayU vault);
- Your search history, browse history, and preferences;
- Your reviews written about other users;
- Your bookmarked activity partners and Live-status subscriptions;
- Your device push tokens (Firebase Cloud Messaging);
- Your session tokens and all associated authentication data;
- Your rating history where you were the rater;
- For Activity Partners: your services offered, availability calendar, blocked dates, hourly pricing, and Activity Partner profile bio.
3. What we are legally required to retain
Certain records must be retained for a defined period after account deletion because Indian law requires it. These records are moved to a restricted, audit-only archive with no operational access. They cannot be used for any purpose other than legal compliance and are not linked to your active identity.
| Data category | Retention period | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| KYC records (government ID, live selfie, verification result) | 5 years | PMLA, RBI KYC Master Direction |
| Booking transaction records (booking IDs, amounts, dates, PAN of Activity Partner for TDS) | 8 years | Income Tax Act §44AA, GST Act §36 |
| GST tax invoices | 8 years from end of relevant financial year | CGST Act §36 |
| Reviews that other users wrote about you (anonymised — your name and profile link are removed; the review text stays visible on the counterparty’s profile if they choose) | Indefinite | Legitimate interest — platform trust |
| Records of complaints, disputes, and Trust & Safety actions relating to your account | 3 years | IT Act §67C, defence of legal claims |
| Server logs containing your IP addresses | 180 days | IT (Intermediary Guidelines) Rules 2021 §3(1)(g) |
4. Timeline
- Within 24 hours of a verified request, your account is deactivated. You will no longer appear in search results and cannot be booked. Any active bookings are handled per the Refund Policy.
- Within 7 days, all data listed in Section 2 is queued for permanent deletion.
- Within 30 days, permanent deletion is complete from all live systems including backups.
- Retained records under Section 3 are moved to the restricted archive at the same time.
5. If you have outstanding bookings
Active or pending bookings must be resolved before deletion. If any are open, we will contact you to:
- Cancel and refund pending bookings per the Refund Policy;
- Complete any Activity Partner earnings owed to you (Activity Partners); or settle any amounts you owe to the platform (unlikely — the escrow model means bookings are pre-paid).
Where a Dispute is open, deletion pauses until the Dispute is closed by our Trust & Safety team.
6. Consequences of deletion
- The deletion is permanent and irreversible.
- You cannot recover your booking history, ratings received, Activity Partner profile, or any content you created.
- If you sign up again in future, it will be a new account with no connection to the deleted one.
- Activity Partners who were verified previously will need to re-complete KYC from scratch.
